Karen North has enjoyed bringing music into the lives of children and adults for nearly 40 years in her work as an educator and performer. With a Master of Music Degree (University of New South Wales), a B.A. Honours Music Degree (University of Sydney) and a Graduate Diploma in Education (Sydney Teachers College), Karen’s career has encompassed choral/orchestral conducting, class music teaching and flute teaching. Karen was Director of Music at Sydney Grammar (Edgecliff) School and has also worked in government schools at both primary and secondary level. Karen is currently teaching flute to students aged 6 years to adult.

Karen is the author of the popular and enduring flute teaching series The Young Flute Player (method books, duet & trio books, adult learners). She has recently published two new flute repertoire books, Lyrical Flute Legends and Inspiring Flute Solos, as well as a book of festive music from around the world, Festive Flute Fun. 

Karen is now working with specialists in violin, clarinet and saxophone to create more repertoire for young players of these instruments, including Lyrical Violin Legends, Lyrical Clarinet Legends, The Young Saxophone Player and The Young Clarinet Player.
